Central
to all education at our language and culture
school
is the Lunaapeew identity, culture and
language
of our students. As this is a life long learning process this
program is open to all ages, in
fact family
participation is encouraged in all our programming. The
pedagogy of this
program
is founded on family learning and environmental conservation and
relationship to
creation.
This program may include:

Classes in the classroom and/or on the land.

Participation in Meesingw environmental conservation projects.

Organized field trips, family activities and/or attending conferences, etc.

This program will be coordinated in collaboration with an OCT qualified teacher who mayco-teach with community and visiting teachers, elders and other friends of Meesingw.

Curricula Expectations are centered on the Lunaapeew seasonal activities for sustainable living and responsibilities to creation.
Independent
Learning/Home School Program (K-12)

Program Lead: OCT Teacher/Homeschool Consultant

Time Frame: Individually Designed – 3 Semesters/Year Round
Through
Personal Gift Plans the learning of each student will be specifically
designed to meet at a very minimum, the appropriate Curriculum
Expectations and Guidelines of the Ontario Ministry of Education.
This blended program will strive to integrate our Identity,
Culture and Language Program into all independent learning
activities.
This
program is dependent on the collaboration of a self-defined program
approved by the OCT Teacher and Homeschool Consultant. This
program will ensure the necessary hours are planned and logged by
parent and student to the appropriate areas of study. This
program is very dependent on parent/student participation within the
home. The OCT Teacher and Homeschool consultant will serve as
resources
for lesson planning and assessment.

student will have their own Personal Gifts Plan may include any of

This program including curricula content, assessment and the issuing of student transcripts will be overseen by a qualified OCT Teacher.

Nish Gardens Home School has been secured to coordinate student Personal Gifts Program and facilitate student and family support.
Meesingw
Cooperative Program (7-12)

(Grade 7-12 program)

Program Lead: Kaakushpush Principal

Time Frame: Year Round – Placement 3-4 times/week
We
have developed Co-Op program for our school to allow our students
to
participate in real-life workplaces through participation in the
wider organizational activities of Meesingw.
Meesingw
has many on-going events, projects and business ventures going that
our school will be
able
to participate in through cooperative opportunities.
This
program may include:

Meesingw Craft/Book Store

Meesingw Hatchery

The principal of the school in cooperation of the Meesingw Director of Operations andMeesingw Board of Directors will oversee this program.

An OCT qualified Teacher will assist in overseeing assessment of the student progress through the program.

Placements may be paid employment opportunities for students depending on the fundingsources for the different Meesingw projects and business ventures.
On-line
Courses

(9-12 program Optional On-line Learning Program (9-12)

Time Frame: To coincide with Ministry Timetables
We
will be developing an Internet Hub facility in our culture
and language school
in order to offer
optional
on-line learning. It is important that we are able to access
Ontario Ministry of Education courses such as
Math
and English for those that may want to take those courses. Our
Lead Teacher will be responsible
for program deliver including student support and tutoring.
This
program may include:

Math, English and/or other compulsory courses offered by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

Individual student support and tutoring.

Opportunities for students to register part-time.

Assessment will be overseen by an OCT qualified teacher.

Tutors may include community teachers and volunteers.
Community
Environmental Training Program

Meesingw
will also be using Kaakaapush Wihkiit as a training center for
different environmental
projects
that we have such as youth environmental guardians, family foraging
weekends, seed
collecting
and training associated with the Meesingw Nursery.
